The Jamdani fabric is a supplementary weft technique of weaving, crafted by master weavers who possess generations of accumulated knowledge, passed down through their communes and families. They know all there is to know about fine handcrafted muslins. The designs are sketched on graph papers, which are used as a guiding reference underneath the fabric. The creation of such fabrics requires umpteen hours, along with meticulous expertise in the field. Further, they are synonymous with elegance and lend a sense of pride to both the weaver and the wearer. Jamdani originated in Dhaka, in present day Bangladesh, and eventually migrated to West Bengal. It is a must have for all those who hold Indian heritage textiles in utmost regard.
